1993 SCORE International Banquet
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Ivan Stewart raked in most of the chips at the SCORE
International desert off-road racing series banquet Friday night but
shared some of the pot with hotelier Michael Gaughan, named
"person of the year" for 1993.
Stewart was overall point champion and was confirmed officially as the
"Ironman," collecting two Valvoline Ironman trophies this year for
winning both major Baja races with no relief driver.
Gaughan, in whose hotel, the Gold Coast, the award banquet is held
annually, was honored for his long time support of desert racing as well
as his own participation.
The other two major awards went to Ricky Johnson, "rookie of the year,"
and Russ Wernimont, "mechanic of the year." Other SCORE Off-Roadsman
awards went to:
Contingency company of the year -- BFGoodrich
Motorcycle manufacturer of the year -- Kawasaki
Buggy chassis manufacturer of the year -- Mirage
Engine builder of the year -- FAT
Entry sponsor of the year -- Barbary Coast
Pit support team of the year -- Checkers
